Two of Stravinsky's masterpieces are now available as SACD hybrids for the first time! Stravinsky's "The Firebird" is best heard in its 1910 first edition, with its four-wind orchestra radiating primary colors, but this 1975 recording by Boulez is known as a masterpiece that makes the most of the interesting aspects of the score. The New York Philharmonic's individual musicianship and superb musicianship were a major factor in this, and the charm of this recording, coupled with the excellent analog recording, has not been lost. The Rite of Spring" was recorded in 1977 with Mehta, who served as music director of the New York Philharmonic for 13 seasons from 1978 to 1991, the longest tenure of any music director in the orchestra's history, and is known as one of the last great analog recordings. This SACD hybrid version is one of the last masterpieces of the analog era. This SACD hybrid disc is licensed from Sony Classical and released by Dutton in the U.K. The SACD layer contains four channels (quadraohinic) of multi-channel audio in addition to the stereo audio. All have been remastered by label owner Michael J.
