The first video in the series features "Rigoletto," a Verdi work that Luigi specializes in. The production is directed by Tatiana Gurbaka of the Mainz State Opera in Germany, who was named “Director of the Year” by *Opern-Welt* magazine in 2013. The stage features nothing more than a long table draped in a white sheet and some folding chairs. This extremely simple staging allows the story and the music to shine through more clearly. While the list of legendary performances of *Rigoletto* includes many baritones who defined their eras, this production features Romanian baritone George Petan. He made his opera debut in 2000 at the Rome Opera in *La Bohème*, and in 2001, he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera singing the title role in *The Barber of Seville*, to great acclaim. Here, too, he masterfully brings to life the dramatic figure of the father. The cast is impeccable, featuring the in-demand tenor Saimir Pirgu and the beautiful Polish soprano Aleksandra Krzak.
