Mozart's Violin Sonatas with Tangent Piano Mozart composed this collection of six violin sonatas in Paris in 1778. As can be seen from the fact that this sonata is accurately described as a "Clavier Sonata with Violin Accompaniment," the violin was at that time a complementary accompaniment to the piano. However, in this Mozart sonata, the violin part is not merely treated as an obbligato, but as almost equal to the piano. Marijke Sparnce, who plays tangent piano, was born in 1972 in Amsterdam. She studied with Gustav Leonhardt and participated in master classes with Jos van Immaasel, among others. The tangent piano is a type of keyboard instrument that uses a piece of wood called a tangent to push up the strings to produce sound. It was a transitional instrument from the harpsichord to the piano. This album uses a tangent piano made in Vienna in 1788.Baroque violin Anton Steck uses a 1658 Jacob Steiner.
