Formed in Brighton, UK, in 2013 by Chris Woollison (drums), Joe Branton (bass), and Tim Walters (guitar), the instrumental band POLY-MATH—which has undergone several lineup changes and currently performs as a quartet featuring Josh Gesner (keyboards)—will release their fifth album in 2026 via The Laser’s Edge in the U.S. True to their name, POLY-MATH has built a reputation both domestically and internationally through their solid math rock sound, characterized by multi-layered rhythmic structures that make heavy use of polyrhythms and odd time signatures. They have gained recognition for their consistent live performances and high-quality music, including multiple appearances at the UK music festival "Arc Tan Gent Festival," which brings together post-rock, math rock, and experimental artists. Following the departure of saxophonist Chris Olsen since their previous album, this release—their first in four years—is an ambitious work that not only delves deeper into their signature decadent math rock sound but also incorporates elements of traditional progressive rock and ethno-jazz, making full use of the flexible ensemble possibilities afforded by their simple instrumentation.
