The main attraction is, as you know, the masterpiece ballet *The Nutcracker*. It is, after all, one of Tchaikovsky’s greatest masterpieces, and Fedoseyev really shines here. As someone whose orchestral conducting is second to none, he brings out the full potential of his trusted Moscow Radio Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. Yet, true to his mastery, Fedoseyev never lets the music run wild; he ensures there’s plenty of fairy-tale charm and a sense of expansiveness. Brilliant! It’s a delight to hear that he pours so much love into the many fine pieces that weren’t included in the suite and thus have become far less well-known. Fedoseyev recorded the complete work for Melodiya back in 1986, and it’s clear that his artistry has matured significantly since then. The Grand Suite from *Sleeping Beauty*, included as a bonus track, is the same version previously released on CR.991055. Unlike the standard suite, this one was personally selected by Fedoseyev himself.
