Description:

Pierre Vismeer's truly dramatic works! Claves label is proud to present four world premiere recordings of works by Geneva-born French composer Pierre Vismeer, including four world premiere recordings of concertos and orchestral works. This album contains four world premiere recordings of concertos and orchestral works by Pierre Vismeer, a French composer born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1915. After studying composition at the Conservatory of Geneva, he studied at the Paris Conservatory for three years from 1935 under Roger Ducasse and at the Ecole Normale de Musique, where he studied conducting under Munch. He returned to Switzerland during World War II, but returned to Paris in 1949 and became a French citizen in 1958. He was influenced by Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, and Roussel, and later by the music of Stravinsky. Like Jolivet and Tomasi, Vismer pioneered the genre of the concerto, and wrote works for a variety of instruments; in 1957 he composed the symphony "The Child and the Rose," inspired by Saint-Exupéry's "The Prince of the Stars," and in 1956 he composed the symphony "The Child and the Rose," inspired by the novel "The Prince of Wales. This work dares not use the original title, but recreates the poetic world of "The Prince of the Stars". The symphonic trilogy "Clamavie," also composed in 1957 and premiered that same year in Geneva as part of World Red Cross Day, is the most "Onegelian" of Vismer's works. Based on the Lutheran chorale "Lord, rest in peace," the three parts are performed without interruption. King International.
