A synthesis of European musical art during the Renaissance. The Geneva Psalter, recorded by the Ensemble Lamaraviglia! In the mid-16th century, the Geneva Psalter spread throughout Reformed Europe, including Switzerland, and Jean Calvin, a Genevan reformer, published his first complete collection of 150 Psalms in 1562. The Psalms were then translated into French, and various Genevan cantors set them to music. Claude Gudimel (c.1514-1572) composed a four-part Psalter, which was published in 1564, only two years after its premiere. The psalm's simple structure, with the melody in the tenor part, made it an instant favorite. Ensemble Lamaraviglia sings these beautiful psalms. King International
