Description:
Discovery of an important recording in the history of Bach's fugue technique! Chamber orchestral version commissioned by Scherchen and arranged by Wuerta! This is an important recording in the history of Bach's fugue technique. Geneva-born composer Roger Vuataz (1898-1988) arranged the technique for chamber orchestra. Vuataz arranged the technique of fugue from 1936 to 1937 at the request of the famous conductor Hermann Scherchen. Using this arrangement, Scherchen recorded the Technique de la fugue for DECCA in 1949, contributing greatly to the reevaluation of this work (the later recording was arranged by Scherchen himself). This is Vuata's version, performed by Vuata himself. The arrangement makes effective use of woodwinds, and the treatment of the voices is much easier to understand than in the keyboard performance. After recording the unfinished fugue, the chorale "Our Father who art in heaven" from the John Passion is played by the ensemble as the finale.Note that although the CD label indicates "stereo," it is monaural.
