This is a collection of works for viol written in the 16th and 17th centuries. The viol is a French word, basically the same instrument as the Italian viola da gamba, which, although similar in form, is classified differently from the violin genus. Some of the works included here are originals, while others are arrangements of works written for other instruments, allowing the listener to discover the charm of the viol through a variety of pieces. The Bach works included as bonus tracks also have a completely different appeal from the originals, and the high quality of the recordings combined with the soft and sensual tones will surely leave you in awe.
