Since it doesn’t sound unnatural to play J.S. Bach’s harpsichord concertos on the piano, why not perform Handel’s (1685–1759) works on the piano as well? This was the thought that occurred to the German pianist Matthias Kirschneライト. He focused on Handel’s Op. 4 collection of organ concertos (which, depending on the piece, can also be performed on the harp or harpsichord) and arranged each piece for solo piano. Originally, these concertos were performed during intermissions in theatrical works such as oratorios, and the organs used in these settings were small and by no means grandiose. Replacing those organ parts with the piano required a certain degree of technical skill, but in this performance, the result sounds completely natural.
