Description:
Georg Gebel was a musician whose father was an organist of the same name, and who was regarded as a promising talent from a young age. However, he was largely forgotten after his death. Fortunately, many of the works he composed are preserved in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, and it is expected that they will gradually be performed in the future. His complex counterpoint and harmonious style set him apart from his contemporaries, clearly demonstrating just how highly he was regarded at the time. The cpo label has released the St. John Passion (999894-2) and the Christmas & New Year’s Oratorio (999993-2) have been released by the cpo label; the “St. John Passion,” in particular, is highly regarded for its warm and cheerful atmosphere, which offers a glimpse into a different facet of Passion music from that era.
