Description:
Malipiero: Complete Piano Concertos (2 SACDs) Maripiero, known alongside Pizzetti and Casella as a leading figure of modern Italian neoclassicism, is also renowned as a scholar of Monteverdi and Vivaldi. However, many of his works are characterized more by melancholy and complexity than by Italian elegance, and they are by no means all easy on the ear. That said, his early works are heavily influenced by Impressionism, so anyone who loves Debussy is sure to be captivated. This album presents a complete collection of his piano concertos—a set that has rarely been recorded in its entirety—and can be considered a valuable recording that offers a comprehensive overview of the evolution of Malipiero’s compositional style. As this is a hybrid SACD, it includes three audio tracks: standard CD stereo, SACD stereo, and SACD multichannel. It’s often said that 2-channel stereo is best for appreciating the crispness of the direct sound and the detailed rendering of the instruments, while multichannel audio is ideal for experiencing the overall atmosphere resonating through the hall—and comparing and enjoying these different sounds is a unique pleasure offered by hybrid SACDs.
