This is a collection of works by Magnus Lindberg, a Finnish contemporary composer and pianist. Like Saariaho and Esa-Pekka Salonen, he is a member of “Korvatauki!—Listen Up!”, a group dedicated to promoting contemporary music, and has been instrumental in the development of this field in Finland. While his works were primarily based on specific rhythmic patterns or belonged to the “Spectral School” (composers who employ a methodology of theoretically synthesizing overtones), he has gradually returned to a classical style, evolving toward a melodic and emotionally rich compositional approach. The collection of works included on this album also features, for the most part, fluid and steady musical ideas, yet they possess a unique, violent atmosphere that emerges here and there. Naxos Japan
