Description:
He is widely active as a pianist and composer. Olli Mustonen was born in Helsinki. He says his motto is to always confront a piece of music with a fresh mind and convey the composer's beliefs to the listener. In this Scriabin, too, he conveys all the "polyvalence" and "bewitching" that characterize the music of the mature late Romantic period, and embodies the "dreamlike moments" that sometimes occur. Sonata No. 10, written in a single movement and atonal, and "Toward the Flame," conceived as a sonata but classified as a "poem" by the composer himself because of its deviant style, are known as difficult pieces to perform. The fact that Mustonen plays these two pieces without any difficulty is a testament to his skill, which is on a par with Horowitz's. Naxos Japan
