Finland’s rising star, Sigurðsson, takes on Kimmo Hakola’s monumental piano concerto! Kimmo Hakola is one of Finland’s most prominent composers. His piano concerto was commissioned by the Helsinki Festival and completed in 1996. This monumental work consists of nine movements and has a playing time of approximately 56 minutes. A notable feature is that the cadenza is treated as a separate movement. Combining power and brilliance with deep emotion and humor, this monumental work is brimming with the diverse charms of the piano concerto, alongside passages of virtuosic writing. Henri Siegfriedson’s recordings of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 3 (Hanssler 98.259) have been highly acclaimed internationally and have succeeded in winning over new audiences. The “Sinfonietta” for orchestra is a single-movement work characterized throughout by passionate, rhythmic music. Jon Sturgårds and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra delight listeners with virtuosic music and a vivid sound. A spacious, dynamic sound with a warm resonance.
