Katharina Kammerlohr was born in Munich. She studied oboe at the Conservatory in Detmold and then singing with Mechtild Böhm. She has won numerous singing competitions. Since 1993, she has sung at the Berlin State Opera under Barenboim in numerous productions including The Crowning of Poppea, The Barber of Seville, Madama Butterfly, and The Knight of the Roses. Finnish baritone Aruttu Kataja studied at the Sibelius Academy with Jorma Hunninen and others, and joined the Berlin State Opera in 2006. He has performed Mozart roles such as Figaro, the Count, Guglielmo, and Papageno, as well as baritone roles in operas by Puccini, Verdi, Richard Strauss, and Britten, and has appeared in oratorio and Passion concerts. Mahler's "A Child's Magic Horn" is taken from the German folk poem collection of the same name, and Mahler selected poems with which he had a special sympathy to compose a song cycle. Usually, 12 of the "Children's Magic Horns" are performed, but the 20 songs here include those from "Songs of a Young Man" and the symphony. (King International)
