Syrinx Quintet
Description:
The legendary Schilanx Quintet, which also included Wolfgang Meier, performs woodwind quintets on the "Preziosa" series of re-releases of "rare" recordings on the MDG label. The legendary Syrranks Quintet was founded in 1971 and won the first prize in the chamber music category at the Munich International Music Competition in 1975. In 1975, the group won the first prize in the chamber music category of the Munich International Music Competition. Each member of the group was active as a soloist and member of an orchestra. Among them, bassoonist Rainer Schottstedt (1951-2016) was principal of the Cologne Gürzenig Orchestra, and clarinetist Wolfgang Meyer (1954-2019) participated in numerous chamber music recordings with his sister, Sabine, and also played period instruments. with Arnoncourt, and in later years was professor and president of the Karlsruhe College of Music.Francais' "Woodwind Quintet," composed in 1948 for the wind players of the Orchestre National de France, is a work of technical perfection and stylistic beauty that allows each player to fully demonstrate his or her technique. And Ibert's "Three Pieces" is rich in color and exudes an air of elegance. On the other hand, "Woodwind Quintet" by Paul Taffanel, one of the pioneers of modern flute technique and a contributor to the development of wind chamber music in the 20th century, is a technically challenging work with many scenes in which the flute plays an active role, as he himself was a flute player. It also lacks the lightness of Francais and Ibert, and is a work that gives a sense of the scale of the late Romantic period. Then there is Hindemith, one of the most famous German composers of the 20th century. The small chamber music of Op. 24 No. 1 is a unique composition of winds, percussion, piano, and accordion, while No. 2, recorded here, is a woodwind quintet. The second work here is written for woodwind quintet. It is a lively work that captures the characteristics of each instrument. The cover photo is Pablo Picasso's "Pan" (1948). King International
