Catoire / Utrecht String Quartet

Description:

Utrecht Q performs chamber works by unknown composer Georgi Catoire! Enjoy the euphoric music of Catoire! Georgy Catoire (1861-1926) is a composer who is currently undergoing a reappraisal. Catoire left behind a total of 36 works, including symphonies, piano concertos, chamber music, songs, and piano pieces. The music is composed with expressive harmonies and delicate rhythms, evoking the brilliance and nobility of the fin de siècle. The performance will be given by the talented Utrecht String Quartet of the Netherlands, which boasts a wide repertoire, and pianist Anna Zasimova, who has actively studied and performed Catoire's works. Born in Moscow on April 27, 1861 to parents of French descent, Catoire showed musical talent from an early age, taking lessons from Carl Klintvoort at the age of 14 and being influenced by the music of Liszt and Wagner. He studied mathematics at Moscow State University, and after graduation he worked for his father's company and followed the path of the business elite, fluent in several languages, but with encouragement from Tchaikovsky, he decided to study composition again, over the objections of his parents. After studying composition in Berlin, he was also trained by Rimsky-Korsakov and Liadov in St. Petersburg. He was a friend of the composers Taneyev and Metonel, as well as the pianist Alexander Golidenveizel, who was a professor at the Moscow Conservatory, where he premiered Catoire's Piano Concerto Op.21. He served until 1926. King International
