The prestigious Leipzig String Quartet's 16th Haydn String Quartet Collection! The Leipzig String Quartet was formed in 1988 by the principal players of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. With a vast repertoire of about 200 works by 55 composers, they perform a wide range of music from Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary works and arrangements. They have already produced a number of CDs. The current work in progress is the complete Haydn string quartets. In 1793, after a successful visit to London, Haydn returned to Vienna and composed six string quartets (Op. 71 & 74), which were dedicated to a music-loving nobleman, Count Anton Apony, and called the "Apony String Quartets".
