Although she did not learn composition in earnest until late in her career, her talent quickly gained her a reputation and she was in the limelight as one of the outstanding female composers of her time, along with Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann. At that time, female composers were given only limited opportunities for activities such as salon music, but she boldly tried her hand not only at chamber music and songs but also at large-scale works, including eight symphonies and more than 15 overtures. However, of the more than 15 overtures he composed, only one, the overture to "Faust" included in this album, was published during his lifetime. Performed by the Mecklenburg State Orchestra under the direction of Marc Rohde, this is a disc that will make you realize the hidden charm of Emilie Meyer. King International
