The Lesser-Known Charm of Honegger’s Art Songs Honegger was a member of the French Group of Six. His major works include the dramatic oratorios *King David* and *Joan of Arc at the Stake*, as well as *Pacific 231* and Symphony No. 3, “Liturgical,” but his art songs are rarely performed. Baritone Holger Falk and pianist Steffen Schreielmacher, who have previously recorded the little-known song cycles of Hans Eisler, have now recorded an album that fully conveys the charm of Honegger’s songs. “Three Songs” based on poems by René Mora, who also wrote the libretto for *King David*. Also included are “Three Songs” based on poems by Claudel—whom Honegger deeply admired—and who also wrote the libretto for *Joan of Arc at the Stake*. These works are characterized by Honegger’s signature delicate, beautiful melodies and meticulous musical craftsmanship. King International
