The sixth installment of the Baltic Sea States Music Series on the German MDG label features six organ sonatas by Theophil Andreas Folkmar (1686-1768) and the organ works of Daniel Maggnau! The sixth release in MDG's Music of the Baltic States series features six organ sonatas by Theophil Andreas Volkmar (1686-1768) and two chorale partitas by Daniel Magnus Groenau (1699?-1747). Theophil Andreas Volkmar succeeded his father, Johann Arnold, as organist at the church of Peter & Paul in Szczecin in 1707. He then moved to Danzig (now Gdansk, Poland) in 1712, where he was organist at Trinity Church from 1717. His organ works are characterized by the rich sound of the organ, which is also evident in the six organ sonatas recorded here. Daniel Magnus Groenau, on the other hand, was born in Germany and died in Dantzig.He played the small organ in the Polish Chapel at St. Anne's Church from 1717-19, the small organ at St. Catherine's Church from 1719-24, the choir at St. Mary's Church from 1724-30, and the large organ at St. Johann's Church from 1730 until his death, and left organ works throughout his life. However, many of his manuscripts and papers were lost during World War II, and today only a few of his works remain.
