This album features performances on that organ by Harald Vogel, an organist born in northern Germany who possesses a deep knowledge of historical organs and was awarded the Buxtehude Prize by the city of Lübeck last year. Hieronymus & Jacob Prethorius, Joachim Decker, Matthias Weckmann, Heinrich Scheidemann, and Dietrich Buxtehude were all composers closely associated with St. Jacob’s Church and its organ, and they embodied the splendor of Hamburg’s musical culture across generations.
