Mahler's songs, a fusion of the 1901 Steinway and Romberger's shadowy voice, are regarded as a symbolic representation of the Romantic era. The uncontrollable longing, sadness, and ardent desire in these songs are expressed with graceful echoes. Songs of a Wandering Young Man" is a series of four songs closely related to Symphony No. 1 and said to have been inspired by Mahler's own tragic love. On the other hand, the "Rückert Lieder" and "Songs for a Lost Child," both written after 1901, were based on poems by Friedrich Rückert. It is well known that Mahler lost his second daughter soon after writing "The Lost Child," making the work ironic for him. The songs are often sung with orchestral accompaniment, but for this album, piano accompaniment was chosen.The beautiful sound of the Steinway "Manfred Burki" made in 1901 and Lomberger's shadowy voice combine to create a wonderful Mahler experience.
