Description:
Vladimir Peskin was born in Irkutsk, Russia, but fled to Switzerland with his revolutionary father, where he studied at the Geneva Conservatory. After the outbreak of the Russian Revolution, he returned to his homeland and entered the Moscow Conservatory in 1922. Here he received composition and piano lessons from Feinberg. Although he gave up his career as a concert pianist due to a hand injury at the time, his life in composition was transformed when he met the trumpet player Timofey Dokshtitser during the Great Purges of the 1930s. Peskin, who recognized his talent, first became Doksitser's accompanist, and from then on wrote a series of works for him. The virtuoso Sommerhalder plays these superbly crafted works with the utmost skill. It is also interesting to note the conflicting emotions of relief and anxiety in the freely conceived pieces in "Prelude," which was published after Stalin's death. In this recording, the orchestral part is played by Wieczorek on piano. Her performance is full of tension and color, and you can enjoy a different taste from listening to it with orchestral music. Hybrid SACD version Universal Music/IMS
