The orchestra was founded in 1988 by the principal players of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the oldest symphony orchestra in the world. The orchestra has a repertoire of about 200 pieces by 55 composers and has recorded more than 30 pieces. Haydn: String Quartets No. 81 and 82, written in Vienna in 1799 and dedicated to Count Lopkowitz, are already deeply imbued with a romantic world reminiscent of Schubert's. No. 83, written after No. 82, was the first of its kind. The composition of No. 83 was started after No. 82, but only the Andante and Minuet movements were completed. It is said that he gave up the completion of the work probably due to his old age.Haydn's string quartets are usually written as a set, but No. 43 is the only one that was written alone, and it is also an enigmatic work. The recordings in this series feature faithful copy bows from Haydn's time, and the quartets are characterized by their excellent reproduction of Haydn's language. Universal Music/IMS
