A dramatic and theatrical femme fatale of the streaming generation. Her name is Emei. A New Jersey-born Chinese-American singer-songwriter, she uses a vocal style as vivid and bold as her personality to her advantage. At age 15, she placed third on *Chinese Idol* and later appeared on the Chinese version of *Dancing with the Stars*. After earning a degree in cognitive science from Yale University, she began uploading her original songs online. From there, she made a huge splash in 2022 with “Late to the Party,” and following a surge in popularity on TikTok, she released the EP *End of an Era*. However, it was with the 2023 release of “Scatterbrain” that she truly made her mark. Hailed as one of Spotify’s “Best Pop Songs of 2023,” the track received acclaim from media outlets including Billboard and People, as well as UK’s BBC Radio 1 and Australia’s Triple J. Her latest EP, *NIGHT AT THE OPERA*, is now available on digital platforms and will soon be released on CD and vinyl. Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Ricky Reed (Lizzo, Leon Bridges, Camila Cabello, Phantogram, John Batiste, and others), this EP features two tracks that showcase Emei’s theatrical side—a “pop opera” style befitting a “born theater kid”: "NightAtTheOpera," as well as the up-tempo pop track "What'sThePoint"—both of which showcase the breadth of Emei’s bold and diverse vision. Set against a soundscape that weaves together organ, strings, and quirky beats, we see the figure of a future pop star projecting bold, bright, and candid lyrics.
