Having fully mastered the array of instruments at their disposal and possessing an aesthetic that is mature yet never loses its hunger, the band has completed their latest album, *GETMEAN*, a declaration of renewed determination! BOYHARSHER is an American darkwave duo garnering attention for their unique soundscape—a fusion of pulsating industrial techno and dreamlike, confessional storytelling, refined into a dark, danceable minimal synth sound. Comprising vocalist Jay Matthews and producer Augustus Müller, the duo has toured worldwide since forming in 2013. Through their own labels, NudeClub and DKARecords, *YRBODYISNOTHING* (2016) and *CAREFUL* (2019), establishing themselves as central figures in the underground electronic scene. They have now announced the release of their new album, *GETMEAN*, on Atlantic Records. The album is described as a meditation on love, loss, and survival. Throughout the album, the two members of Boy Harsher confront grief and despair head-on, tracing the difficult journey of overcoming loss and finding a path to renewal. At its core, *GETMEAN* is an album of redemption—a record of one of life’s most painful chapters and the strength found beyond it. After several years of releasing critically acclaimed albums, pursuing ambitious collaborations and genre-bending experiments, and successfully completing large-scale world tours in front of sold-out crowds, Boy Harsher faced its greatest challenge in early 2024: the dissolution of a romantic relationship between two band members. Amid the aftermath of the breakup—which came on the heels of personal turmoil, the loss of a family member, and a creative slump—the band’s future was shrouded in uncertainty, and creating new music seemed utterly impossible. It was only after Matthews set out on a journey—under the open skies stretching across West Texas, the Pacific Northwest, South Florida, and everywhere in between and on the margins, even to places not marked on a map—to explore his shifting identity and reexamine his solitude— —did the production of Boy Harsher’s new album truly begin, born of a rootless existence and bound by questions that, at first glance, seemed impossible to unravel.
