The Kronos Quartet was founded in 1973 by violinist David Harrington. Having celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, the ensemble continues to reach new heights. Focusing on music from various genres around the world, the Kronos Quartet has created new music from its own unique perspective. As outstanding interpreters of “contemporary music,” numerous composers have written pieces specifically for them. Because they adapt so flexibly to different contexts—for example, embodying “the very essence of minimalism” when performing works by Reich or Glass, yet often categorized as “crossover” when performing pieces rooted in folk music or film scores— Their interest does not focus on a single point; rather, their approach seems to be one of embracing all forms of music and selecting from it what resonates with their sensibilities. This album, *A Thousand Thoughts*, features music from 14 countries, including China, India, Sweden, and Vietnam. While each track has its own distinct character, no matter where you listen, you’ll hear that unmistakable “Chronos” sound. From modern sounds to nostalgic ones, and pieces that speak to different listeners in different ways—please enjoy the magical world of the Chronos Quartet.
