Direct DSD mastered from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman, HYBRID SACD specification, playable on all CD/SACD players Steely Dan's gold-selling fifth studio album, The Royal Scam, produced by Gary Katz and released by ABC Records in 1976. The guitar work on this album is more prominent than on Steely Dan's previous album, "Katy Ride," which was the first album without founding guitarist Jeff Baxter. The album cover is apparently of a man in a suit sleeping on a radiator, dreaming of a hybrid of skyscraper and beast. The cover, created from a painting by Zox and a photograph by Charlie Ganse, was originally intended for Van Morrison's unreleased 1975 album MECHANICAL BLISS, the concept of which was a satire of the American dream. 1999 remastered edition of the In the liner notes, Fagen and Becker claim that it is "the ugliest album cover of the '70s (except for CAN'T BUY A THRILL).
