A Commemorative Release Marking the 120th Anniversary of Maestro Elman’s Birth Although Maestro Elman was known for never making broadcast recordings, a rare recording of his special appearance on the BBC in the UK is being released to commemorate the 120th anniversary of his birth. The recordings were made in advance of two recitals held on October 26, 1961—two days after he performed Tchaikovsky’s concerto under the baton of Boldt—accompanied by his close friend Seeger. The program is packed with highlights that Elman fans will find irresistible, including Brahms’s Sonata No. 1—for which no official recording exists—and the Gavotte en rondeau, which stands as Elman’s only recording of J.S.
