While long-selling titles such as Montu’s *La Traviata* and Piatigorsky have been well-received, this album features Polish harpsichordist Wanda Landowska—known for her significant contributions to the revival of harpsichord music—and focuses primarily on Polish folk dance pieces. Born into a cultured family in Warsaw, Landowska studied piano at the Warsaw Conservatory under A. Miałowski, a renowned Chopin interpreter, and her skill was said to have earned her praise from the famous conductor Artur Nikisch at the age of just 14. Her performance—brilliant, romantic, and grand in scale, delivered with masterful skill on a large harpsichord featuring a modern Pleyel mechanism (manufactured by the Pleyel company) that she reportedly commissioned—is a masterpiece that still feels fresh today, without a hint of datedness. In this collection of Polish dance pieces, her exceptional qualities are fully on display, resulting in a truly magnificent performance.
