Two masterful recordings by legendary early music performer David Manrow released simultaneously! Featuring special bonus tracks!! A precious legacy left behind by the now-legendary early music performer and conductor David Manrow (1942–1976). Manro, a genius musician who burst onto the scene like a comet during the 1960s and 1970s—a period often considered the dawn of the early music movement—used his unique musical sensibility to bring forgotten medieval and Renaissance works to life in the modern era, as if they had just been composed. Furthermore, the London Early Music Consort, which he led, featured a lineup of virtuosos that would be unthinkable today, leaving fans in awe. It was a dream consort featuring an all-star lineup: James Bowman (countertenor), Oliver Brocks (viola da gamba), James Tyler (lute), and Christopher Hogwood (keyboards and percussion), who is currently active as a conductor with the Ancient Chamber Orchestra and other ensembles. This release features a long-awaited CD of the London Early Music Consort’s performance of Manrow’s late EMI recordings, including a track from the historical film “Henry VIII and His Wives” (featuring works by Henry VIII and music from that period, as well as Manrow’s own compositions) and a second album [this release] featuring Spanish music from the reign of King Ferdinand V and Queen Isabella during the height of the Spanish Empire in the 15th and 16th centuries. Both albums offer superb performances showcasing the extraordinary virtuosity of these master musicians.
