Description:
Unreleased recordings by Klemperer—who actively performed contemporary music of the time, including works by Janáček, Schoenberg, and Stravinsky—have been released. Although Otto Klemperer is a conductor known for his numerous acclaimed recordings of Classical and Romantic repertoire, he was also famous from an early age for actively incorporating new works by composers such as Janáček, Schoenberg, and Stravinsky into his repertoire. He also included these two pieces by Stravinsky—with whom he had been friends since his youth—in his repertoire from an early stage. This marks the first-ever release of *Petrushka*. At the time, EMI declined to release it, deeming the recording too flawed; however, it has recently come to light that the original release was based primarily on the third day of a three-day recording session. Furthermore, it was discovered that there was a separate master tape edited primarily from the first day’s recording, leading to this release. As it is a recording from the first day, the performance is fresher and more free-flowing.
