The new 2025 pressing features a new lacquer cut for higher sound quality and includes all new 4-page liner notes. This definitive edition has been reconstructed in a deeper context that includes the background story of Gabrielle Ross, the 5Rhythms philosophy, and a tribute to the late Robert Ansell, Ross' partner and The Millers' producer. Despite the fact that the music of Gabriel Ross & the Millers has sold thousands of CDs in total, with many terrific musicians who have backed Babatunde Olatunji, Miles Davis, Pharaoh Sanders, Patti Smith, and others, the music of Gabriel Ross & the Millers is not well known outside of their network. Born of live improvisation as the soundtrack to a dance workshop, their music was never intended to seek acclaim from the music industry. From experimental psychology through psychedelic counterculture, Gabouelle Ross developed her own theory of movement meditation called "Five Rhythms" in the late 70s.The concept and methodology of "Ecstatic Dance," which has been handed down since the time of ancient shamans and Greek mythology, has been revived in the modern age and has grown into an international workshop with more than 400 certified instructors in 50 countries around the world. The music is mainly improvised by several drummers who were longtime members of Babatunde Olatunji's band, and is based on a wide range of roots music rhythms from Native American shaman music to Afro-Brazilian candomblé and Yoruba beliefs. The musicians were hired on the spot to record improvisations inspired by her dances. (1/2)
