Description:

Da Vinci Classics 1,000th title! Live performance of Busoni 2002 by Bellucci! Da Vinci Classics & Jazz, the Italian label founded in 2015 by Milan-born musicologist Edmund Filippini, who also teaches at Souai University, celebrates its 1,000th title album! The anniversary edition of Da Vinci, which has already released an astounding 1,000 titles (including classical and jazz) despite being an independent label in its 10th year of existence, features a treasured collection of concerto works by Busoni, with the brilliant pianist Giovanni Bellucci, one of Italy's greatest contemporary talents, as the soloist. The live recording, made by RAI (Italian Broadcasting Institute) in June 2002, will be made available to the public to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Busoni's death in 2024, and will be recorded by Piero Lattarino (1931-2023), a profound historian of the piano and its repertoire, who recently passed away. It features an unpublished text he had written for the Bertsch recording in 2004. Born in Rome, Italy in 1965, Giovanni Bellucci was unable to play the piano until the age of 14, but suddenly his divine talent was awakened, and at the age of 15 he was able to play Beethoven's complete piano sonatas by heart. At the age of 16, he made his debut playing Liszt's "Dance of Death," and was recognized by the great Russian master Lazar Berman, who took him as his pupil. The interpretation he inherited from his teacher Berman has made him a renowned Liszt player, and this live recording also showcases his brilliant technique in Liszt's "Spanish Rhapsody," arranged for piano and orchestra by Busoni.
