By juxtaposing *Phantasy* (1834) with the third year of *Years of Pilgrimage* (1877), this album reflects Liszt’s long journey from the reveries of his youth to the prayers and resignation of his later years. *Phantasy* still possesses an air of uncertainty, like a dream, along with improvisational freedom and the exaltation of love. In contrast, in *Years of Pilgrimage*, Book 3, faith, reflections on death, and inner tranquility come to the fore, creating a profound contrast with the light of *The Fountain at Villa d’Este* and the shadows of *To the Cypresses*. This album traces the trajectory of Liszt’s spirit, from the intoxication of youth to the intensity of his later years. Unni Beck is a pianist from Seoul who studied piano and composition at the Korea National University of Arts before furthering her studies at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and the Imola International Piano Academy. She has won numerous awards, including first prize at the 2022 Liszt Center International Competition. She has been working on a project to perform Liszt’s complete piano works for several years and will also feature Liszt in her debut concert in Japan in 2025. Tokyo M Plus
