This album brings together the works for guitar that composer and conductor Arthur Johannes Scholz (1883–1945)—who was born in what is now Lviv, Ukraine, and died in Vienna—devoted himself to in his later years. Scholz worked closely with guitarists active in Vienna at the time to create intricate and expressive works; however, following his death in 1945, he was rapidly forgotten amid the turmoil of the era, and many of his works remain unpublished. This album rediscovers Scholz’s unknown repertoire through research and editing based on autograph scores discovered at the Vienna City Library. Guitare Actuelles is an institution founded in Turin in 2010 by Italian guitarist and educator Dora Filippone, dedicated to comprehensive activities that encompass not only performance but also education and research.
