Description:

The second collection of piano sonatas first recorded by Carlo Albanesi! The world premiere recording of the complete piano sonatas of Carlo Albanesi, a composer/pianist from Naples at the end of the 19th century. Carlo Albanesi, who was taught by his father, Luigi Albanesi, a pianist, established his reputation in Naples before moving to France in 1878, where he gave many critically acclaimed recitals in Paris. In 1893, he was appointed professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London, a post he held until his death. Among his students were Princess Margaret of Sweden, her sister Patricia of Connaught, and Princess Maria Alexandrovna of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. This is a testament to the importance of Albanesi's position at the time. Also published in the early 20th century, "Exercises for Fingering" is still one of the most reprinted and used instructional books for teaching piano today. This album includes the Sonata in B-flat minor (No. 4), published in 1905, and the Sonata in C major (No. 6), published in 1913, which, together with the previous album (C00532), brings the total number of surviving piano sonatas by Albanesi to five of the six he composed. Continuing from the previous volume, Daniele Adornetto, a pianist from Rome, will revive Albanesi's sonatas. In recent years, he has been exploring more of the 20th century Italian repertoire, performing little-known sonatas by Alessandro Longo, Ildebrando Pizzetti, Mario Zafredo, and others. He has also given many successful lecture-recitals, and after teaching at the Conservatories of Bari and Perugia, he now teaches at the piano department of the Ricinio Refice Conservatory in Frosinone.
