Description:
He was also a mandolin virtuoso Francesco Webber's Mandolin Sonata! The early history of the mandolin tells of its many shapes, forms, and tunings. The mandolin's small size, sweet tone, and versatility quickly earned it a place of excellence, both in instrumental works and as a companion to vocal music. the 18th century was truly the golden age of the mandolin, attracting the attention of the most important musicians of the time, but by the Romantic period, the mandolin was being used on a smaller, more limited scale for amateur and home music making The mandolin, however, began to be relegated to the smaller and more limited realm of amateur and home music production. This album is the first recording of a collection of mandolin sonatas by Francesco Webber, an Italian musician and mandolin virtuoso who emigrated to England as a child. Little is known about Webber's life and career, but he played theorbo in Handel's orchestra and is credited with teaching mandolin to Princess Amelia, who appears on the cover in a portrait painted by Philippe Mercier around 1733. Davide Ferrera, born in 1992 in L'Aquila, Italy, graduated with distinction from the Conservatory of Casella with Fabio Giudice and from the Conservatory of Verdi with He studied with Fabio Giudice at the Accademia Musicale Casella and with Dorina Frati at the Accademia Musicale Verdi, graduating with honors. He has collaborated with some of Italy's leading opera houses, including La Scala in Milan and the Teatro dell'Opera Municipale in Bologna. An avid scholar and researcher, Ferrera is also dedicated to the rediscovery and revitalization of the 17th and 18th century mandolin repertoire. Tokyo M-Plus
