Description:
Paolina Capeche Minutolo (1803-1877):. Includes. Variations on "Oh, dear memories," Op.3 Variations on a Theme by Maestro Balducci, Op.5 Variations on a Known Theme, Op.8 Variations on a Theme by Maestro Balducci, Op.9 From the Waltz Collection dedicated to Maestro Balducci Naples 1824, Op.18 Performed by Diego Cannizaro (Fortepiano / made in Sicily around 1820) This is the world premiere recording of piano works by Paolina Capeche Minutolo, who was born into a noble family in 19th century Italy and was an excellent pianist. Minutolo's persona is emblematic of the musical life of Naples in the 18th and 19th centuries, and historians have long hypothesized variously about the origin and name of the famed Minutolo family. After the Swabian period, the Minutolo family reached its peak, holding the highest positions in the civil, military and ecclesiastical spheres, and in Naples, belonging to the Dukes of Naples at the Capua and Nido, and after the abolition of the Dukes of Naples, being included in the Golden Book of Naples, it became an aristocracy. Paolina, like other young noblewomen, received a liberal arts education along with her two older sisters, was a keen student of music, and showed great talent as a pianist; between 1822 and 1824, between the ages of 19 and 21, she composed several piano pieces, trios for piano and harp, piano, harp and natural horn composed several pieces, all of which are kept in manuscript in the library of the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples. This album is a collection of piano works that were strongly influenced by the Italian master Giuseppe Balducci, who gave different stylistic instructions for each work. Diego Cannizaro, internationally active as an organist, pianist, and harpsichordist, who was professor of organ and old keyboard at the Bellini Conservatory and has appeared at important international organ festivals throughout Europe and the United States, paints an excellent picture of 19th century Neapolitan music. *Recording: June 4, 2024, Bellini Conservatory (Caltanissetta, Italy) (Tokyo M-Plus)
