The members of the Chitarra Trio are all graduates of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where they formed the trio in 1991. In addition to numerous awards at national and international competitions and appearances at important music festivals such as the Krakow and La Scala Festivals, the trio has been invited several times to perform with the Orchestra La Scala di Milano for works by Weill, Donizetti, Verdi, and Henze. Ferdinand Levay, whose works are featured on this album, is so fascinated by the guitar that he says, "Combining the tone of the oboe or clarinet with that of the guitar creates a sound far more enchanting than the combination of piano and wind instruments," and has created many works for the guitar.
