A collection of chamber music works by Paul Jeanjean, a well-known clarinet virtuoso! The solo clarinet repertoire has been nurtured by two parallel streams of works since the time of Mozart: on the one hand, the masterpieces by Mozart and other great composers such as Brahms, Weber, Mendelssohn, Poulenc and Saint-Saens. On the other hand, there is a stream of works written by the greatest clarinet virtuosos of each period. In this second group, none has left us more brilliant and expressive works than those of the Provencal genius Paul Jeanjean. Paul Jeanjean was principal clarinetist of the prestigious Orchestre des Gardes Republiques and the Orchestre National de l'Opera de Monte Carlo, and has left behind many exquisite works for clarinet and piano. On this album, Luigi Magistrelli, an Italian heavyweight who has performed with such masters as Carl Leister and Dieter Krecker, has served as president of the Italian chapter of the International Clarinet Association for more than 20 years and is a professor at the Milan Conservatory of Music.The works are performed by some of Italy's leading contemporary clarinetists, including Fausto Saredi, bass clarinetist with the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan since 2006. The coupling is "Gisgandry," a collaboration by Paul's sons (Fostan & Maurice), written for clarinetist Henri Gisgandry. Tokyo M-Plus
