When Boccherini completed his "Stabat Mater" around 1781, the "Stabat Mater" was a work by Pergolesi that had captivated audiences throughout Europe. However, Boccherini's brilliant reading of the medieval Latin poem gave birth to this moving work. This work, with soprano and string ensemble, features Barbara Frittoli, a master soprano, as soloist. Her dramatic singing is enhanced by the rich sound of the virtuosos of La Scala in Milan, conducted by Rondelli.
