The creator of the “Valotti tuning system” and a clergyman. Valotti’s “Antiphon of the Virgin Mary”! Francesco Antonio Valotti was an 18th-century Italian musician who devised the “Valotti Tuning System,” a unique method of tuning, and was also a composer, music theorist, organist, and clergyman. His friend Giuseppe Tartini praised the “Valotti Tuning System” in a treatise published in 1754, and Valotti is also known to have continued his studies of harmony and counterpoint theory alongside his work as a clergyman. The “Antiphony of the Virgin Mary,” dedicated to the Virgin Mary and now recorded for the first time worldwide, is a little-known work for soprano solo and string ensemble. The ensemble features Ensemble Festa Rustica, founded in 1994 by Rome-based early music performer Giorgio Matteoli, joined by Italico Splendore—a group that shot to fame through the “Vitali Project” on the Tactus , which shot to fame through the Vitali Project on the Tactus label, making for a truly impressive lineup of performers.
