Despite the controversy over "The Wonderful Chinese Official," Béla Bartók is a Hungarian giant star who has made great contributions to the collection and study of Eastern European folk music, and has produced works in a variety of styles. From among the many piano works by Bartók, who is also a pioneer of folk music as an academic field, this CD couples "Six Dances" based on Eastern European Bulgarian rhythms, "BB.88, Sz.80," Bartók's only piano sonata, and "Bagatelle" from his legacy. Italian pianist Adamo Angeletti plays Bartók on the Bechstein piano, and the three works provide an excellent performance that illustrates the evolution of Bartók's style and the history of the development of his compositional techniques.
