Johann Anton André (1775-1842), also known as the "Father of Mozart Studies," was an authority on Mozart in the first half of the 19th century, and is also called the "Father of Mozart Studies" because he purchased a large number of manuscript autographs from Constanze, Mozart's widow, and prepared the scores, which were published by the André publishing house run by his own family. André himself arranged the music.) The "Three Clarinet Quartets, Op. 79," which André himself arranged and published in 1799, attests to the popularity of the clarinet in Europe at that time, and to the existence of great virtuosos (such as Anton Stadler) who needed a repertoire in which to play the instrument. Mozart's music on two instruments: a B-flat clarinet of the Ehlers (German) system, built around 1920 by Ludwig Walshewski, and a C clarinet of the Ehlers (German) system, built around 1950 by Friedrich Arthur Ubel.
