Antonio Scontolino (1850-1922) was a composer/double bassist who studied music in Italy and Germany and was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Long unjustly buried, Scontolino's music and scores have been revived on the contemporary international scene through the research and passion of Nicola Malaggini and other musicians. Here you will find all of Scontolino's "Fantasias," full of virtuosity and graceful melodies for contrabass, which he composed inspired by the works of the masters of the time. The Italian contrabassist Nicola Malaggini recorded all of the Fantasias, which demonstrate Scontolino's refined writing style, as principal of the Orchestra Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania in 2004, and since 2014 as principal of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra (Orchestra Sinfonica della Radio Italia di Torino). In 2014, he became Principal of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra of Turin, Italy.The collaboration of masterpieces by great Italian composers, Scontolino's outstanding compositional technique, and Nicola Malaggini's virtuosity further enhances the value of this "world premiere recording.
