The 37th release from Berlin's luxury label "bastille musique," acclaimed for its high-caliber performances and unparalleled lavish packaging, features Betsy Jolas (b. 1926), the "Lady of French Contemporary Music" who will turn 100 in 2026. She visited Indonesia in December 1972 with Toru Takemitsu and Yannis Xenakis, and they continued to influence each other thereafter. Betty Jolas (b. 1926), who will turn 100 in 2026. Jolas herself takes on the role of voice (singing), which she consistently treats as central in her works, regardless of whether vocal parts are present. She is joined by Finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen, a long-time collaborator of Jolas, and contemporary piano specialist Nicholas Hodges.La Journée TOKYO 2025 For the La Journée TOKYO 2025 performance, the album features works written over the 50-year span from 1972 to 2022 for cello and piano, including the world premiere recording of B for Sonata, which was spotlighted in the aforementioned journey to Indonesia during the "1972 Indonesia" program alongside works by Takemitsu and Xenakis. The packaging again features the luxurious box design, a hallmark of "bastille musique."
