Jacob Kellermann has recorded Toshio Hosokawa's guitar works! Hosokawa has composed many guitar works, including arrangements of Japanese folk songs for solo guitar. This album contains Hosokawa's previous guitar compositions. Since ancient times, the guitar has been spun together with poems and songs. The classical guitar has a strong affinity with Japanese folk songs, and its sound, reminiscent of the koto, is truly beautiful. The works recorded here, including guitar solo, guitar and voice, and guitar and string ensemble, all reveal the fundamental aspects of Hosokawa's works. The guitarist Jacob Kellermann, who is a great admirer of Hosokawa's works, gives a sensitive and enchanting performance with the soprano Ilse Ehrens and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra led by Christian Carlsen. Comprised of 12 Japanese folk songs, "Japanese Songs" was commissioned by KELLERMANN and, with the exception of "Sakura" composed in 2004, 11 songs have been newly arranged to create a colorful work that evokes the 12 months and the four seasons of Japan. The world premiere was in February 2024. This recording was made in September of the same year. (King International)
